Not so long ago, I was talking to an old friend who had followed his job to the outskirts of Philadelphia. His daughters are in high school, so they stayed in Texas along with his wife. This means he has a lot of free time on his hands. One Saturday morning, my friend decided head in to the office to do a little paperwork. It was a nice day, so rather than drive, he opted to walk. On his way home, he noticed a sign in front of his local library announcing a harp concert that afternoon. My friend told me the story and remarked, “If I hadn’t gone for that walk, I would have never known that harp concert was going on. I was lucky I decided to walk that day instead of drive.”

Even in Opelika and Auburn it’s easy to watch our community go by from behind the windshield and it’s easy to miss a lot of what’s going on around town. There is a rich arts and cultural life in our community, but sometimes the people behind it are so busy doing the things that enrich our community that they don’t have the time or the resources to let us know what they’re doing. That’s where OffbeatAuburn.com comes in. Our hope is to provide a quick, convenient, and entertaining resource to find the events and destinations in our community that make Opelika and Auburn an enriching place to live. The site is by no means comprehensive, so if you have a suggestion for a way to make things better, please do not hesitate to contact us.
