Jen Slocumb of Martha’s Trouble chats with us about this week’s Arts & Hearts benefit. Just click on the button below to listen or check us out on iTunes!
Not so long ago, I heard about the band Martha’s Trouble for the first time. I made a mental note to check them out for a future podcast because musically they seem like the kind of band Offbeat Auburn readers would enjoy and and it’s always fun to talk to a local band working their way into the national spotlight. What I did not expect was for Jen Slocumb to contact me first and for a reason other than letting me know about her band.
Jen is one of a growing group of people rallying around Pam Worthington. Pam is a single mom who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. She is employed, but her job does not offer health insurance. The story is sadly familiar. The medical bills are going to be awful and that’s where the Arts & Hearts Benefit comes in.
The Event Center Downtown in Opelika is hosting the evening, which features music from Martha’s Trouble and My Two Wings and spoken word artist Kolayah-KeeVan. Admission is $25, which qualifies guests for door prizes to be given away throughout the evening as well as hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants. Drinks will be available from a cash bar.
The Arts & Hearts Benefit happens Thursday, June 10th, 6-9 p.m. at The Event Center Downtown in Opelika. Tickets are $25 and are available at Magnolia Salon in Auburn and online at marthastrouble.com.
