Offbeat Auburn Podcast — Old 280 Boogie

A beautiful spring day in Alabama, a few folks from the Old 280 Boogie Committee and (if you listen carefully) Lola the Dog. Just click on the button below to listen or check us out on iTunes!

Old280BoogieScott Peek from Standard Deluxe and I have been chasing each other around for about a month trying to set up an interview about the 10th Annual Old 280 Boogie. It’s been on the Calendar, but the event generates such a buzz in the local arts community, I really wanted to put up a podcast about it. As the weeks passed, though, I started to wonder if I even needed to because it seems like everybody is going to be there. The Gnu’s Room and Mama Mocha’s saw fit to include in their own list of events coming this week. Our own Sydney seems to consider attendance a foregone conclusion.

Still, I think stories are best told by people in their own words, so I set out to Waverly with my recorder and hoped I’d be able to corner the folks from the planning committee for a few minutes. I’m glad I did. Not only were they kind enough to put up with me showing up on their doorstep unannounced, I was reminded why this is going to be another memorable event. Saturday is shaping up to be one of those days that makes Alabama such a beautiful place to be in the spring, especially when you can share it with local artists, great food, fantastic music, and good friends.

The 10th Annual Old 280 Boogie happens Saturday, April 17th, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. rain or shine in Waverly, Alabama. Admission is free for this family-oriented event, but bring cash for vendors and food and a few bucks for the bands because they’re going to work hard to keep you entertained.
